🍄 ICAM Receives SPUN funding! 🍄

We just got word that we received funging from the Socety for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN)! SPUN seeks to advance mycological research of soil fungi and work towards the conservation of these dynamic, integral, and poorly understood realms of life.

SPUN has been funding research around the world, and ours will be the first such project in Armenia 🇦🇲 This project will also add substantially to the mycorrhizal knowledge in West Asia more broadly! 🍄🍄🍄

ICAM Presents to GCC!

Mushrooms of Armenia and Beyond

Our group was invited by Nare at Glendale Community College (GCC) to present our work. GCC has a very high population of Armenian students and an even larger armenian alumni. The outcome was very good, more than 50 individuals followed along to our talk, of which was recorded.

Claudia Gets a Grant!

#Congratulations to Claudia for obtaining the BGCI ArbNet grant!

Claudia wrote a successful grant to BGCI ArbNet and won $3,000 to sequence the oak roots we collected in Armenia. The DNA will be extracted at Yerevan Botanical Gargen (YBG) but the sequencing will occur in Holden University.

ICAM Meets Dr. Arsen Gasparyan

On February 7th, 2021 ICAM made contact with Armenia. Specifically an individual, Dr. Arsen Gasparyan, who is a classically trained/educated lichenologist. He completed his Ph.D. in Berlin Germany on Lichen Diversity in Armenia.

Creating ICAM

November 14, 2020. As soon as the war ended between Azerbaijan and Armenia Claudia, Patty and Tania were discussing how to help their war torned country. Tania knew Arik from her Microbiology program and thus started the ICAM journey. Our first meeting was November 14th, we met through zoom and discussed our thoughts, frustrations and ideas about what an organizational effort would look like.
